Carl Folkesson is a furniture and product designer based in Stockholm, Sweden. His work develops within narrow frameworks through recontextualizing found forms and overlooked materials. By examining their origins, values and possible future functions, the work is shaped through dialogue with what is already present. An exploration of the boundary between craft and industry, tradition and innovation, function and sculpture.

Symbiotic Waste BFA degree project 2023 By combining recurring waste materials from different companies into a single product, I aimed to create a small-scale industrial symbiosis in the Gnosjö region. Symbiotic Waste is five examples of re-evaluating waste and seeing opportunities in form and material. The choice of location was based on my roots and the area’s history of industrial collaboration.

By deconstructing and reinterpreting these components, the project brings traces of the old interior into a new context, where everyday materials become both building blocks and carriers of memory.

Itu side table2023Using G.A.D’s traditional methods and knowledge in new ways, Itu is a contemporary interpretation of timeless craftsmanship. Working with locally sourced materials from Gotland, the project explores contrasts between light and heavy, raw and elegant. Together with Elin Åkerfeldt, in collaboration with G.A.D.

Neon Forest for Klättermusen Verkstad 2026 A series of lighting pieces developed for Klättermusen Verkstad. Using Klättermusen’s discarded fabrics alongside branches, stones and industrial steel, the project reflects on the contrast between technical outdoor textiles and the landscapes they are meant to inhabit. Nature intersected by urban structures, a dialogue between forest and city.
Spectral Scaffold Nobel Week Lights 2023 Spectral Scaffold is a light installation inspired by the experimental methods used to generate attosecond pulses of light, awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2023. The work takes the form of a city-scale scaffold representing an atom, translating microscopic events into spatial experience. Light moves through the metal structure, evoking the motion of electrons within matter. Created with Annelie Wihlborg, Fanny Johansson and Joel Eriksson, in collaboration with sound artist Kristin Botros.
